What is Consigment?

Consignment and estate auctions are a useful resource in the liquidation and/or resale of excess or otherwise unneeded inventory. Our weekly auctions afford us the ability to liquidate consignments for our clientele almost immediately. We accept consignments for auction on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

Upon consignment to the auction each item is carefully inventoried, evaluated, and displayed in our showroom for in house preview. Additionally, items may be photographed for online preview or other advertisement. One of the advantages of selling your valuables at Morton Kuehnert is that we handle all of the preparation and advertising for you.

All items consigned to the auction will be made available for floor bidding, absentee bidding, and real time internet bidding.

Hosting nearly 1,000 auctions, and successfully handling over 500,000 items, Morton Kuehnert has become well established as an effective and convenient medium for the resale of excess or otherwise unneeded assets.

Valuation

If you are considering selling your items at auction the first step in the process is to have your item/items evaluated. We offer several ways to accomplish this:

  1. You may bring your item or items in to the gallery for valuation by one of our staff specialists.
  2. If you have multiple and/or large items you may submit photographs by mail or by email to: valuation@mortonkuehnert.com for valuation.
  3. You may submit photos, details and provenance online at mortonkuehnert.com/valuation.html
  4. For entire estate, business, or household liquidation: arrangements can be made for one of our staff specialists to visit your location for valuation.

It is important to provide as much information about the items as possible for an accurate valuation. Condition, dimensions, medium, origin, and provenance are all important factors that contribute to the valuation of your items. The more information that is provided to us, the more accurately we can evaluate your items.

When your items are evaluated it will be determined whether or not they are appropriate for auction at our gallery. You may also be provided with an approximation of the final "floor" selling price of you items. Although we make every effort to be as accurate as possible in our evaluation of your items, there are many factors that may contribute to the final selling price.
